It’s another Hole-in-One
for the PGI Golf Tournament for Literacy BC!

An incredible $56,000 was raised at the wet and wonderful 19th Annual PGI Golf Tournament for Literacy BC held on July 7th at the University Golf Course in Vancouver. Founded by Peter Gzowski, our tournament continues to provide valuable financial support to adult learners across B.C.

A very big thank you to our hosts and friends, Peter S. Gzowski, Rick Cluff, Robb Lucy, Fred Lee, celebrity putter; Barney Bentall, poet laureate; Len Grinke, photographer and our PGI musicians, Gino Gerussi Miles Black.

A special thank you to Peter Mansbridge, who added to the evening by joining us by phone.

Congratulations to our winning team of golfers representing Canada Post Corporation, Ron Pasini, Gord Hannigan, Dwight Chatterley and Brian Jones.

Special congratulations to this year’s PGI Learner Achievement recipient, Pauline Thompson of Victoria. This award is presented annually to an adult who has made exceptional progress in a literacy or adult basic education program.

Literacy BC’s President Anne Docherty and Greystone Books representative Nancy Flight gave a very warm presentation where Pauline received  a cheque from Literacy BC and $500.00 for new books, courtesy of Greystone Books. Rick Cluff rounded out the presentation with a touching interview.

The evening also paid tribute to Colleen MacMillan, Annick Press and Literacy BC Board Member who was awarded the 2009 Gzowski Award. The Award is presented annually to the person who best represents the spirit of the legendary broadcaster, writer and reporter.
