About the Provincial Literacy Resource Centre Library

Resources

Our literacy resources come in the form of teaching materials, basic readers, evaluation tools, practice exercises, research and reports. Most are print materials, many with links to an online version. There are also websites, videos, DVDs, CD-ROMs, audio-cassettes, kits and games.

The library contains many unique BC-produced materials, and exemplary materials that have been reviewed by the literacy field, including materials reviewed in ELMO reviews. For more information, read our collection development policy. Our resources are catalogued using the Library of Congress Subject Headings and the Canadian Literacy Thesaurus.

How to Borrow

Anyone from British Columbia can borrow books - by mail - for FREE.
(Please note that return mailing costs apply for audio-visuals only.)

• Register as a first-time borrower at the online catalogue
• Make your requests for materials or research assistance through the online catalogue or by phone, fax or email
• Receive and return your materials by mail

We are pleased to be part of Outlook Online, the online catalogue of British Columbia's public and academic libraries. If it is more convenient for you, requests for our materials may be made through your local public or post-secondary library.

In certain cases, items can be sent to other provinces, upon request.

Mailing Your Books

Using the Canada Post Library Book Rate, Literacy BC covers all mailing costs for books. Please note that you must pay return postage costs to borrow audio-visuals or other non-book items.

• Once you have made your request (see above), we use Canada Post's Library Book Rate to mail your books. (Audio-visuals are sent by regular mail.)
• When you return books, simply use the return mailing label provided with your package. The post office recognises this label and exempts you from postage.
• All instructions are included with your books.

Visit the Resource Centre in downtown Vancouver to browse our library. Please make an appointment so that someone can be available to help you.
